Arts by Offenders is an exhibition of artwork produced by offenders, patients in secure hospitals, young people in secure children's homes and immigration centre detainees in Scotland. This challenging and thought-provoking collection of paintings, drawings and creative writing, was selected from entries to the 2010 Koestler Awards. The exhibition has been funded by The Co-operative as part of its wide ranging community activity in Scotland.

We are also proud to present our creative writing project 'Creative Captions' with HM Young Offenders Institution Polmont where young people have been invited to respond to selected artworks in the exhibition. These written responses will be displayed alongside the artwork and a series of postcards will be available.

This is the second exhibition in Edinburgh that enables entrants from Scotland to be eligible for additional awards. This year's judging panel includes:

Kirsten Sams Manager, Offender Learning, Skills and Employability Services, Motherwell College
Richie Cumming Outreach Officer, National Galleries of Scotland
Morvern Cunningham General Manager, Roxy Art House
Professor Douglas Dunn OBE FRSL FRSE, Poet and former professor of English at St Andrews University
James Crosbie Published author and Koestler Award winner
Paul McNamee Editor, The Big Issue in Scotland and Wales
Sarah Munro Artistic Manager, Tramway, Glasgow
Sarah Saunders Deputy Head of Education, National Galleries of Scotland

As part of the award selection process, visitors are invited to vote for their favourite piece of artwork throughout the exhibition, with the top three works receiving the Audience Choice Award.
